Hi Del Del,
Wow! Life is crazy, huh? We're super super busy and you're having fun along for the ride... as long as Mommy is giving the ride. You are a super Momma's girl. It's almost comical. You want me to hold and snuggle you almost constantly- not as much as when you weren't walking, which is how you travel 100% of the time now, but you are still a HUGE fan of being in Mommy's arms. You are very sad when I leave you but in less than a minute you've recovered. You are then happy talking to a stuffed animal, trying to put on shoes, playing in the sandbox... until you see me again. At that point you are very very sad again and need Mommy. Oh, girlie! I know, I know, these years are short and I'll soon miss all the time I've had holding you but... in the day to day it seems impossible to imagine a day when you won't be saying "up... up....UP!" with reach-y up arms.
We've been talking about how you are so smart- we're blown away that you brush your teeth, try to buckle yourself into the carseat, try to offer the chickens food from your fingers, ride Noah's tricycle, etc. etc. but really- you're very good at mimicking. And then I realized- mimickry often equals smarts. And right around the time you upped the mimickry-Noah discovered mimickry. This means that when you yell loud, he yells loud. When he walks on the high wall in our backyard, you try to walk on the high wall. When you blow rasberries, he blows rasberries.
Your words and signs have skyrocketed but it's nothing in comparison to your comprehension. When we say we're going upstairs you sign "brush teeth" (even when it's not bedtime). When I tell you it's time for a diaper change you lay down on the floor- often with your head closer to me than the diaper-ready bum. When we say we're going outside you sign shoes and point to mine and if given the opportunity you retreive your shoes of choice- the choice being whichever you can get your hands on the quickest.
You have discovered the swings at the park this month and you could swing pretty much all day. I'm amazed at how much you comprehend. When I say: are you all done? you enthusiastically shake your head, no. When you drop something you get this really adorable look that includes an exxagerated "O" shaped mouth and say "oh oh!" instead of "uh oh!".
I think you're crazier about milk more than ever! You sign milk and if I'm telling you no you're happy to assist me in lifting my shirt. You often want to tickle my belly first and laugh before latching on. When you sign milk if I say: "oh! you want milk?" You nod your head along with your whole body and have your mouth wide open making panting noises. Your expressions, giggles, and antics are so entertaining. If I'm not looking at you and you'd like my attention, you'll move my face until my eyes are right in front of yours.... I think you learned that from your brother.
We often get comments on your cute-ness and everyone is warmed by your quick smile. You are happy to say "hi" and "bye" to strangers... about the time they walk away- very entertaining for Mommy. It's crazy to see the gender differences. I would like to deny them to high heaven but your social skills are beyond my expectations. You are quick to give hugs and kisses when asked - and recently you've been initiating the love! You and Noah have been interacting more and more and sometimes things are not so rosey. When someone gets hurt (often you, but that's changing) I say: "oh no! what can we do to make your sister/brother feel better?" and hugging ensues. In fact, sometimes I wonder if you two hurt each other just to get a follow-up hug! Whenever you get hurt you seem to try to overcome the discomfort and almost recover. You then glance my way to sort of check in and at that point often need some snuggling. Are you social? Ummm, just a little:)
I love seeing you grow and change everyday, sweet pea,
Mommy

We haven't done this in a while
Yes, yes... blogging has been lacking.
There are reasons.
They're complex.
The quick answer is life is busy and I want to avoid blogging as: "first I did this, then I did that..."
Doesn't mean others should do the same- just what I choose to do.
We were looking through old pictures of Ark Boy for fun and it was really cool to compare him at 14 mos to what Farm Girl looked like at 14 mos. Why 14mos? Because comparing at 15 mos was tricky because we only took.... way for it... three pictures during Ark Boy's 15th month!
I know.
Crazy.
So here they are at 14 mos:

Dear Noah 38 months
Dear Noah Noah,
You have had a verbal explosion. I can't believe how much you're saying and the stories you're telling me! Kate is a little sad about all that she'll miss when Emmie goes to preschool this year and that she'll hear the stories from her but she won't actually be experiencing life with Emmie during the hours she's at preschool. I wasn't too worried about this... I was a little sad that I wouldn't even hear how your days go at preschool because you didn't tend to tell me stories of your experiences... until this month. You tell me everything!
"Look, the sky is blue"- Noah
"The sky is blue"- Mommy
"You're right!"- Noah
You have started mimicking our speech more and more this month too. I think it started when you and Uncle Shawn went back and forth repeating a line from a movie that Uncle Shawn knows. When you realized how fun copying was... well, sometimes it's all you want to do and it's very funny hearing your articulation of what we've just said.
Your manners have multiplied along with your verbal diarrhea. I hear a lot of "sankyou"'s which is pretty adorable. We also often hear you as you lay in your bed falling asleep calling to us:
"Excuse me!.... I need some snuggles.... Do you hear me?.... I'm right here!.... Daaaaad!!!"
You also often insist that you "need" something that you definitely want... you don't need. I have thought that it's so refreshing not to have a kid saying "I want" all the time but I'm not sure if that's any different from "I need".
We had a very busy month with two trips to Vermont! You were very very sad to have to leave Grammy's house. During our second trip you would often refuse to get in the car when we went somewhere (the park, a friend's house....) until I reassured you that we were going to Grammy's again- we weren't going home. How you love being at Grammy's!
We had my Grampa's memorial service in Plattsburgh that we combined with our first trip up to Vermont. You and your sister were the star of the show as the youngest attendees. It was enjoyable to get together with family and friends and remember Grampa. You had fun running around the cemetary- who knew cemetaries could be so fun?
We left Daddy home for most of our second trip to Vermont. We had fun hanging out and it even got warm enough for you to want to get in the pool. I was skeptical of the water temperature but was forced to jump in fully clothed when you fell out of your floaty boat. The weather was pretty refreshing after all. After a couple coughs and a snuggle/crying session with Mommy you fell asleep for the night. The next day you were back in the pool, no harm done, thankfully.
You keep crawling into my lap and out while I write this. I keep telling you to just wait a minute.... I'm tying your letter. You're saying: "Yeah, you're writing N-O-A-H".
Anyway, I know there's more things to say about the fun we've had this month (you're very excited about the prospect of school when the leaves change colors, for instance; that you're refusing to take a bath because you hate hate having your hair washed; that you love love wearing your red crocs still; that you give your sister anything she yells for- even when you were playing with it- but you avoid her hugs and kisses at all costs; that you hate being tickled and will burst into tears if anyone other than Mommy or Daddy tickle you- if Mommy or Daddy tickle you you turn onto your stomach and insist on "only back scratches"- in fact, you hate tickling so much that you often insist that "she doesn't like that! Stop!" when we tickle Del, despite her giggles and signing "more"....) but your sister is done munching on watermelon and you're wanting me to write a letter to Aidan and Isaac- two playgroup friends....
Love you baby boy,
Mommy

Farm Girl goes to sleep
Lay in bed with Mommy.
Ask for milk
it's all gone.
read book in high voice while holding Monkey
trade monkey for Bert.
Read book to Bert.
Trade Bert for Monkey.
Rinse.
Repeat.
Move book away.
Hold Monkey and Bert.
Give both hugs and kisses.
Notice Mommy's feet at end of bed.
Crawl down to them.
Use them to stand up.
Reach for Mommy's hands to be lifted into the air on feet.
Mommy doesn't see.
Grunt.
No response.
Crawl up legs.
Flop on Mommy's chest.
Flop off Mommy.
Notice Mommy's shirt.
Lift shirt to find belly.
Poke Mommy's belly button
hard
Lay head on Mommy's belly.
Sit up.
Pull shirt down
then up.
Lay back down on belly.
Sit up.
Flop onto bed with head precariously close to edge of bed.
Remember Bert.
Get Bert.
Flop back onto bed close to edge.
Play and talk to Bert's hair.
Snuggle Bert.
Sit up.
Flop close to Mommy's side.
Hold Bert firmly.
Feel sleepy.
Close eyes.
